In Memory of Dave ShephardDave Shephard was in the Frankfurt American HS class of 1982, where he finished his sophomore year. Prior to that we were at the American School, Tehran, Iran. Dave was killed in Mosul, Iraq on 19 September 2005 by suicide car bomber. When he was killed he was a contract security officer employed by Blackwater for the Department of State. He already served in both Iraq and Afghanistan as a Special Forces Warrant Officer, and one of the compelling reasons for going back was that he believed in what we were doing in Iraq. He was part of a three car convoy protecting a senior diplomat. A suspicious car was spotted by the first vehicle. When the car started its run on the convoy, the second car which contained my brother, two other security agents, and a dept of state security officer moved to intercept it. They intercepted and rammed the car which then exploded with the force of sixteen 105 artillery shells. While all personnel in the security vehicle were instantly killed, the diplomat was saved. He is survived by his parents, LTC (ret) David and Karen Shephard, of Shelton, Wash.; his wife, Cindy, of Seattle; and siblings, Deane, Daniel, Michelle and Gabrielle.
